Start with posted transactions
The booked balance reflects transactions already recorded in the account. In this example, that balance is €1,874.80.
Account for pending money
A pending card authorization reserves €34.80 for a purchase that has not yet settled.
Available is what remains
Subtracting the pending amount leaves €1,840.00 available. When the purchase settles, its state changes; it should not be counted twice.
Available balance EUR
€1,840.00What if a pending payment changes?
A merchant can complete or reverse an authorization. Check its status before assuming the money has been spent or released. The available balance can also reflect other holds and restrictions under your account terms.
Follow the same purchase through settlement
Start with €1,874.80 booked and a €34.80 card authorization. Available money is €1,840.00. If the merchant settles exactly €34.80 and the matching hold is removed, booked money becomes €1,840.00 and available money remains €1,840.00. The purchase has changed state; it has not happened twice.
This example assumes no other activity or holds. A final merchant amount, fee or currency conversion can change the calculation.
What if the purchase is canceled?
A canceled purchase and a released authorization are not always the same event. Follow the transaction status and check when the hold is removed. A refund after settlement is a separate credit, so it may appear as its own entry rather than erasing the original purchase.
Check these details before contacting support
- The merchant name, purchase date and reference.
- Whether the transaction is pending, completed, reversed or refunded.
- The original and final amounts, including currency differences.
- Any matching hold, refund or adjustment in the activity.
Use the official support channel supplied with your account if the entries do not reconcile. Share the transaction reference through that secure channel.
Keep balance types distinct
Currency balances, stablecoins, investments and credit limits have different access conditions and risks.
